4 Effortless Steps to Repair a Clogged Toilet
Several ways can be use when dealing with blocked toilets. Some would use a plunger and some would avail a plumbing service. Aside from these two mentioned, another way of solving clogged and obstructed toilets would be through the use of hot water and dish washing liquid. However, keep in mind that before you begin the repair procedure, you have to prepare some protective gear such as a pair of rubber gloves in case backflow situation occurs. Furthermore, by following these four easy steps, you’ll be saving a huge amount of money instead on calling professional plumbers to handle clogged toilet issues.
Prepare the materials needed
Apparently, handling the factors that cause the obstruction in our toilet is a bit messy and disgusting. So prior to the operation, it would be better to prepare the materials needed. The things need for the entire operation would be a hot water, dish washing liquid and a pair of rubber gloves. Once you have all the things needed, remove the mat under the toilet and put some newspapers as a substitute. This should be done in case if the water spills outs of the toilet uncontrollably. Then, prepare some hot water. Prepare at least a gallon of hot water in a kettle and maintain it on a medium heat. Keep in mind that the water doesn’t reach its boiling point.
Pour dish washing liquid into the toilet bowl
Pour some amount dish washing liquid into the toilet bowl while you’re waiting for the water to heat. Don’t pour too much, at least half cup of dish washing liquid will do. Don’t flush it after pouring down, leave it for 10 minutes. This actually serves as a lubricant that will break up the obstruction.
Pour hot water
After you’ve pour down the dish washing liquid and leaving it for some time, you can now flush it together with a gallon of hot water. On the other hand, you have to make sure that you’re not pouring “boiling” water for it may cause some problem with your toilet bowl. If you’ve unintentionally let the water reach its boiling, it would be better to let it cool for at least 10 minutes before you pour it down. Hot water is necessary for this operation because it will be the one that will push the factors that cause the obstruction down the drain.
Repeat the process if necessary
If you have already finished the process yet there is no effect at all and your drain is still slowly draining which is a sign that the blockage is still there, it’s much better to repeat the entire process. Repeat what you did for as long as your toilet is free from obstructions. In this situation, a wire coat hanger could also be helpful in pulling the blockage or push it down the pipe. You can do this by straightening the wire and bend its one end. Afterwards, insert the bend wire hanger into the toilet bowl and pushed it into the area where the blockage can be found.
